An eco-industrial park is an area for sustainable innovation with a governance structure of its own, the purpose of which is to combine economic development, respect for the environment, optimization of resources and quality of life. The initiative serves the interests of businesses, users and local authorities.

Qualitative benefits

The eco-industrial park initiative encourages companies to work together to develop innovations, particularly by pooling their local services or infrastructure.

It aims to help businesses create opportunities for savings, while increasing their efficiency or effectiveness.

Many areas for optimization are possible, including:

‣ Collecting waste from companies

‣ Sharing a heating plant

‣ Fitting solar panels for a local energy production network

‣ Better mobility, by rationalizing existing parking spaces or by participating in shared car parks

‣ Common services available to workers (catering, nurseries, etc.)

Stages of the initiative

A stronger link between companies and their region

“Eco-industrial Park” is a planning and governance concept that encourages better use of land and space by optimizing infrastructure, equipment and resources.

It aims to reconcile economic activity with its environment, on the basis of sustainable development criteria. It highlights the quality of life in industrial and small business areas. This type of approach is known throughout the world as industrial ecology and is currently booming.

Eco-industrial parks makes it possible to respond to the challenges posed by the small size of the canton, redefining and optimizing production spaces in Geneva.
