Genie.ch, the project

Presentation of the project

Much work has been done on industrial ecology in Geneva since 2001. The concept is now well known and many companies are eager to implement it in order to make their operations more environmentally friendly, and also to lower costs.

It is in this context that the Environment directorate (Direction générale de l’environnement - DGE), in conjunction with the Cantonal energy board (Office cantonal de l’énergie - OCEN), the Foundation for industrial land in Geneva (Fondation pour les terrains industriels de Genève - FTI), the Industrial services of Geneva (Services industriels de Genève - GIS), and the Office for the promotion of industries and technologies (Office pour la promotion des industries et des technologies - OPI) have developed:

Genie.ch: a collaborative platform

Genie.ch is a collaborative platform dedicated to promoting and creating industrial ecology projects. It provides concrete answers to the Geneva entrepreneurs who wish to move towards greater respect for the environment while meeting their economic performance objectives.

For companies

The 4000 or so companies in Geneva that will be joining the social network Genie.ch will find on the site examples of projects completed in the canton of Geneva and all relevant and necessary information for running industrial ecology projects. It will all be driven by announcements of events, discussions via communities, and updates of daily news dispatches which members can access. Genie.ch will also be on the social networks Twitter and LinkedIn.

A network in operation

To federate the Genie.ch network, the founders of the platform have involved umbrella organizations and representatives of the economic branches of the canton, namely the Federation of francophone Swiss Enterprises (Fédération des Entreprises Romandes - FER) and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (Chambre de commerce, d'industrie et des services de Genève -CCIG).
