Focus on Serbeco, a member of Genie.ch: a company resolutely engaged in the energy transition

Serbeco is engaging in industrial ecology in relation to its activities, effective management of resources, energy transition and development of the local economy, as recounted by Bertrand Girod, CEO of the company "Serbeco is a company that cultivates a vision of global sustainable development. Growth at any price is not part of our DNA, so to speak. We are counting on our values, our innovation ability and our quality of service to ensure the sustainable development of Serbeco".

Renewable energy central to the business

Serbeco operates electric hybrid crane trucks that provide three benefits:

  • CO2 emissions reduced by 20%
  • Noise pollution reduced
  • The use of C02 neutral biofuel

Since 2011, a 1012 m2 photovoltaic plant has been powering its hybrid vehicles and all the machines on the Satigny site that consume electricity (press, shearing machine, sorting centre, sludge treatment plant). In 2014 the integrated photovoltaic panel roof produced 108,000 kWh, equivalent to a third of the company’s annual electricity consumption. At the same time it has diversified its energy resources by building its own biodiesel plant. The latter is powered by fuel derived from edible oil recovered from Swiss restaurants.

Biofuel vehicles allow the company to make savings:

  • 700 tons of CO2 per year.
  • Energy independence meeting 45% of its fuel needs

A company active in the Swiss cleantech market

In collaboration with EcoWaste, Serbeco has, since 2006, been developing centralized management technology for real-time remote monitoring of waste collection containers.
The highlight of this innovation is to have reduced the distances travelled by the vehicle fleet in urban environments and villages.
Using this new technology for glass and PET eco-points shows that in three months mobility flows dedicated to the collection of waste decreased by 25% in the city of Geneva.
